A SALUTE TO SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF SEQUIM

I just got home from having breakfast this morning with the Soroptimist International Club of Sequim. I don't even mind the 7 a.m. starting time because each time I go it's a great opportunity to fill them in our latest endeavors, touch base with a number of their members, and enjoy their meeting. What a great group of caring, dedicated women!!  I love telling folks that our local Soroptimist Club was the first organization to give Mujeres a donation back in mid-2006 ... and this was even before our 501(c)(3) status had been approved. They have given us a donation every single year.

In addition, club members attend our events and collect toothbrushes and floss. We take 100 toothbrushes to Chiapas twice a year, and the majority of them come from Soroptimists.  Sandy Reed, our treasurer, is a member of this club and it's a great way to link our two organizations. Kathy Purcell, newsletter creator extraordinaire, makes sure that Mujeres' news is included in the monthly Soroptiscoop.

For today, Sandy Reed suggested that we have a small silent auction. Our Día de Muertos Celebration is coming up fast (November 2) and we have a huge number of auction items, so I selected 6 of them and we arranged them on a table.  We made $200 in just a few minutes!  What a great idea for those who can't come to our dinner/auction, and for others to get an idea of how unique our auction items are.

So I personally salute the Soroptimists and the excellent work they do.
