More Good News and Garage Sale Update

We are delighted to add Cathy Van Ruhan to our Board. Cathy has been an active volunteer for quite a while and also traveled to Chiapas with Judith in December 2010.  We are looking forward to her insights and to working more closely with her.

The 2012 Garage Sale, headed up by Linda, expanded to two days this year. Thanks to all who donated items to us. Your donations provided the "quality" sale that people have come to expect. A big thank you to those who helped with organizing, pricing, set-up and the actual sale:  Board members Cathy, Sandy, Judith, Martha and especially Linda, as well as volunteer Rose.  We netted over $1400 ... an amount that will provide year-long scholarships for 3 girls!

The sold-out crowd rose in a standing ovation to salute the nine musicians who had filled the Pioneer Park clubhouse with toe-tapping music from the 50s and 60s. All nine played "The Weight" together as a grand finale.  We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Steve Gilchrist who organized and "orchestrated" the evening's entertainment and to all the musicians who contributed their time and talent to making the benefit such a success. They are: Forrest Gilchrist, Ron Munro, Steve Koehler, Jim Faddis, Cort Armstrong, Noel Price, Dan Maguire, Clark Driese and of course, Steve Gilchrist. Kelly Thomas graciously brought her sound system and did a wonderful job with the sound in the hall. .

It was such a fun evening.  We want to thank all the people who attended. Thanks also go to Karen Hanan who was a fantastic emcee, Diane Urbani de La Paz for her article and Spotlight cover in the Peninsula Daily News, and to the Sequim QFC and Safeway for their donations that covered the cheese plates we had as refreshments. Men with Guitars generated so much enthusiasm that it just may become an annual event!
